Alisa McMorris founded the Andrew McMorris Foundation (AMF) in memory of her son, Andrew, who died in 2018 after being hit by a drunk driver. Her mission is to transform this personal tragedy into a platform for change.
Since AMF’s inception in 2019, McMorris has been advocating for legislative support to implement safety standards on automobile manufacturers and address impaired driving offenses. She played a role in the signing of the Infrastructure Bill by President Biden in 2021, which mandates “Advanced Impaired Driving Technology” in vehicles produced post-2026. Additionally, she has supported various New York bills aimed at reducing impaired driving incidents.
McMorris’s advocacy extends beyond legislation; she collaborates with organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Together with MADD and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, AMF has sponsored campaigns against DWIs. The foundation also focuses on education, awarding scholarships and grants to students.
Her efforts aim to keep her son’s legacy alive and raise awareness about impaired driving dangers. “It means so much to our family to keep Andrew’s spirit and legacy alive by raising money for scholarships for our young leaders and to bring awareness to the dangers of drunk, drugged and impaired driving,” said McMorris.
Residing in Shoreham-Wading River with her family, McMorris balances multiple roles as a mother, physician’s assistant, and legislative advocate. She holds degrees from Ithaca College and Touro College.
