Rep. Andrew Garbarino, who represents New York’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on his social media accounts regarding recent developments in Israel, Holocaust remembrance, and homeland security.
On January 26, 2026, Garbarino stated: “After 843 days, there are no longer any Israeli hostages held in Gaza. Today, the remains of Master Sgt. Ran Gvili were recovered and returned home. Hamas broke its word, but Israel kept its commitment to leave no one behind. Every person taken on October 7, 2023, has now been”. The post refers to the return of Israeli hostages and the recovery of remains following events related to conflict in Gaza.
The following day, on January 27, Garbarino addressed Holocaust Remembrance Day by writing: “Today, we remember the millions of innocent lives lost in the Holocaust and honor the victims of genocide whose suffering must never be forgotten. Remembrance is not just about the past, it is a responsibility in the present. We must continue to speak out against antisemitism https://t.co/Qj2MtMwTjo”.
Later that same day he highlighted his work as chairman of a congressional committee: “As chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, my top priority remains keeping Americans safe and ensuring the Department of Homeland Security can accomplish its core mission. I’ve announced that senior leaders from ICE, CBP, and USCIS will testify before the Committee”.
Andrew Garbarino has represented New York’s 2nd District since replacing Peter King in Congress in 2021; previously he served in the New York State Assembly from 2013 to 2020. Born in Sayville in 1984 and currently residing in Bayport at age 38, Garbarino holds degrees from George Washington University (BA) and Hofstra University (JD).
