Rep. Andrew Garbarino, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 2nd district since 2021, announced a series of legislative updates via his social media account in late July 2025, focusing on tax relief and support for veterans.
A day later, on July 30, he posted about legislation aimed at supporting veterans: “I recently reintroduced the Saving Vet Halls Act to support our veterans and ensure the halls they rely on for resources and community can keep their doors open. Learn more about my bill https://t.co/IMtjcm7gwQ”
On July 31, Garbarino reiterated his stance on tax policy affecting Long Island residents: “For too long, Long Islanders paid more and got less because of the unfair SALT deduction cap. We fought to raise the cap and we won. This is real tax relief for hardworking middle-class families, and it takes effect this year.”
Garbarino’s focus on raising the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap aligns with his stated priority of advocating for Long Island families. The newly enacted $40k SALT cap is designed to offer increased deductions for taxpayers in high-tax states such as New York.
Before serving in Congress beginning in 2021—succeeding Peter King—Garbarino represented his community in the New York State Assembly from 2013 to 2020. Born in Sayville in 1984 and now residing in Bayport at age 38, Garbarino holds a BA from George Washington University and a JD from Hofstra University.
