Assemblyman Keith P. Brown (R,C-Northport) expressed disappointment following the governor’s veto of the Recovery Ready Workplace Act (A.521). The legislation, which Brown co-sponsored, had received unanimous approval from both houses of the Legislature.

In a statement, Brown said, “I am deeply disappointed by the governor’s decision to veto the Recovery Ready Workplace Act (A.521), legislation I co-sponsored that passed both houses of the Legislature unanimously and reflected a clear bipartisan commitment to supporting New Yorkers in recovery. As a co-sponsor of this bill, I believe that the financial costs could be covered by the existing Opioid Settlement money and put off any further by having to wait another year for the next Budget cycle. This would be an excellent use of that money to prevent people from using to begin with.”

The Recovery Ready Workplace Act aimed to provide support for individuals in recovery across New York workplaces. Brown argued that funding for its implementation could come from existing opioid settlement funds rather than waiting for future budget allocations.
