On August 16, Brookhaven Town Clerk Kevin LaValle and Councilman Neil Manzella cohosted the annual ShopRite Run the Farm 4-mile run at Bethel Hobbs Farm in Centereach. The event, now in its 11th year, attracted participants from across Brookhaven to promote fitness and support one of Long Island’s historic farms.
Bethel Hobbs Farm, established in 1906, is a volunteer-run non-profit that donates about 90% of its yearly harvest to local food pantries and programs. Each year, the farm provides more than 75,000 pounds of food to various organizations around Long Island.
This year’s race had 217 runners finish. Michael Ramos-Cody was the top male finisher with a time of 23 minutes and 10 seconds. Sarah Williams was the top female finisher at 26 minutes and 31 seconds. Winners received medals and plaques.
The event raised $17,370 for Bethel Hobbs Farm through contributions from participants and sponsors.
Town Clerk Kevin LaValle said, “ShopRite Run the Farm continues to grow each year, and this year’s record turnout shows how much our community values Hobbs Farm and the work it does to fight hunger on Long Island. I am proud to see families, runners, and neighbors come together to support such an important cause.”
Councilman Neil Manzella added, “The success of this year’s ShopRite Run the Farm is a true reflection of Brookhaven’s community spirit. Raising over $17,000 for Hobbs Farm not only supports its mission but also ensures that thousands of families across Long Island will continue to benefit from the farm’s generosity.”
The offices of both officials are located at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville. For further information about the event or Bethel Hobbs Farm, residents can call 631-451-8696.
