The Brookhaven Town Department of General Services Youth Bureau Division, together with the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (LICADD), will hold a professional development workshop focused on grief and loss in adolescence. The event is scheduled for August 19, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and will be available both virtually via Zoom and in person at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville.
The workshop, titled “Understanding Grief and Loss in Adolescence: Challenges and Best Practices,” is funded by the Suffolk County Opioid Settlement Grant. LICADD Executive Director Steve Chassman will present the session. The program is open to anyone interested in youth mental health and substance use prevention. Mental health professionals who attend can earn 2.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
Participants will cover topics including understanding the stages of grief and loss, emotion regulation, and methods for supporting youth through the healing process.
