The Town of Brookhaven Volunteer Youth Advisory Board collaborated with the Mount Sinai Yacht Club to clean up Cedar Beach on May 17. The beach, located at 244 Harbor Beach Road in Mount Sinai, was the focus of this year’s Great Brookhaven Cleanup.
Second District Councilwoman Jane Bonner expressed her pride in the youth volunteers who participated in the event. “I’m incredibly proud of the young people who gave their time and energy to help protect one of our community’s most treasured natural areas,” she said. Bonner emphasized the importance of Cedar Beach, describing it as “not only a local gem — it’s an ecologically vital part of Mount Sinai Harbor.” She highlighted that events like these demonstrate “how powerful community partnerships can be when we come together to care for the environment we all share.”
The Great Brookhaven Cleanup is organized annually by Brookhaven Town’s Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management Department. Each spring, individuals or groups can register to participate in the cleanup effort. Volunteers receive free gloves, bags, and a t-shirt for their participation. More information about the event can be found on the Town’s website or by calling 631-451-TOWN.
