Bryan Sekunda has been appointed as the Senior Major Gifts Officer at Mather Hospital, according to an announcement from the hospital. Sekunda is recognized for his experience in healthcare fundraising, strategic partnership development, and initiatives aimed at improving patient care and community engagement.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bryan to Mather Hospital,” said Matthew Colson, Vice President for Foundation and External Affairs at Mather Hospital. “His proven track record in securing transformational gifts, building strong donor relationships, and supporting innovative programs will be instrumental as we continue to expand our services and elevate the patient experience.”

Before joining Mather Hospital, Sekunda was Director of Development at Stony Brook Medicine for Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. In that position, he secured major gift funding for the Pediatric Emergency Department expansion and increased endowment support for pediatric research. He also contributed to Child Life programs designed to improve care for pediatric patients and their families.

Sekunda’s previous roles include work at the Long Island State Veterans Home, where he managed a fundraiser that led to full funding for a courtyard renovation and helped establish the organization’s endowment. Additionally, he oversaw Stony Brook’s Leadership Giving program with responsibility for six fundraisers across the campus.

A native of State College, Pennsylvania, Sekunda graduated from Stony Brook University with a degree in Business Management. He played on the university’s Men’s Basketball team during its conference championship season and NCAA Tournament appearance. He lives in Miller Place with his wife and son.

Mather Hospital is a 249-bed non-profit teaching hospital serving Suffolk County residents. The hospital has received recognition including a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for outcomes, patient experience, and process; Magnet recognition three times from the American Nurses Credentialing Center; high performance ratings by U.S. News & World Report in several specialties; designation as one of America’s 250 best hospitals by Healthgrades; and multiple Outstanding Patient Experience Awards from Healthgrades. The hospital also offers graduate medical education programs in several specialties.
