Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted federal investments and legislative efforts on social media, focusing on science, aviation safety, and veterans’ support.
On January 12, 2026, LaLota referenced the legacy of Brookhaven National Lab’s contributions to scientific data sharing: “As DOE Undersecretary Gil noted in a recent hearing, Brookhaven National Lab’s role in launching the Protein Data Bank more than 50 years ago created a dataset that now allows AI to predict millions of protein structures—accelerating breakthroughs in medicine, chemistry, and”.
Addressing aviation safety the following day, LaLota commented on longstanding technology gaps faced by air traffic controllers: “For years, our nation’s radar systems fell behind, and air traffic controllers were left without the modern tools they need to keep our skies safe. That’s one reason I supported the Working Families Tax Cut Act, which provided $12.5 billion for the FAA to replace decades-old” (January 13, 2026).
Later on January 13th, LaLota also discussed challenges facing veterans seeking information about their benefits: “For too long, my fellow Veterans and I have had to navigate a maze just to identify earned benefits or find mental health support. That’s unacceptable. That’s why I’m proud to co-lead bipartisan, bicameral legislation that brings clear, accessible information about benefits and”.
Nick LaLota began representing New York’s 1st congressional district in 2023 after succeeding Lee Zeldin. Born in Bay Shore in 1978 and currently residing in Amityville at age 44, LaLota has focused his legislative efforts on technology modernization and veterans’ affairs since taking office.
