On February 25, Councilwoman Jane Bonner attended the Rocky Point Sound Beach Chamber of Commerce Winter Awards Gala at the North Shore Beach Clubhouse in Rocky Point. The event recognized local businesses and volunteers for their contributions to the community and for supporting the chamber during its first year. During the ceremony, Councilwoman Bonner received the Distinguished Public Service Award.

Councilwoman Bonner stated, “The Rocky Point Sound Beach Chamber of Commerce has come a long way in just one year. Their entire membership deserves to be honored for the work that they do to make the community a better place to live and I thank them for recognizing me with the Distinguished Public Service Award.”

Several individuals were also acknowledged at the gala, including Darran Handshaw from Sound Beach Fire Department (William Harrison “Service to Sound Beach” Award), Sean Martin from Rocky Point Fire Department (Joseph A. Edgar “Service to Rocky Point” Award), VFW Post 6249 Commander Joe Cognitore (Point of Light Award), Debbie Nappi-Gonzalez (Volunteer of the Year Award), Bea Ruberto, President of Sound Beach Civic Association (Good Neighbor Award), Jennifer Carlson, Secretary of Rocky Point Civic Association (Good Neighbor Award), Donna McCauley (Commitment to Community Award), Michael Rosasco, Chief of Sound Beach Fire Department (William Harrison “Service to Sound Beach” Award), Frank Raspanti, Suffolk County Police Department 7th Precinct Community Liaison Officer (Ralph Sorli “Excellence in Service” Award) and Gary Pollakusky, President and Executive Director of Rocky Point Sound Beach Chamber of Commerce.
