Caleb Gerry, a fourth grader at Moriches Elementary School, initiated a charitable project with fellow members of Center Moriches Cub Scout Pack 23. The initiative aimed to support children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital by creating and collecting homemade cards with positive messages and gathering donations of crayons, coloring books, and bubbles. These items are intended to aid the children’s breathing exercises.

Throughout April, Caleb promoted the project by making morning announcements and placing collection bins in the school lobby.

“It was such a beautiful project and we had so many donations,” said Deirdre Redding, principal of Moriches Elementary School. “Caleb did a beautiful job organizing his project and sharing it with his classmates and our community to help those less fortunate. I’m so proud of him.”

The Moriches elementary community contributed generously to the drive. All collected items have been donated to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital for the benefit of the children there.
