Jazz Loft concert series continues with focus on Latin jazz

The Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton will host “The Spirit and Soul of Latin Jazz” on Thursday, July 24. This event is part of The Jazz Loft @ Southampton Concert Series, featuring top jazz performers. The concert will showcase the Carlos Jiménez Mambo Dulcet, focusing on the rhythms and cultures from Spain, Cuba, the Caribbean, Mexico, Brazil, and beyond.

Carlos Jiménez is a renowned flute player, vocalist, and composer specializing in jazz, Latin jazz, and salsa. He has recorded nine albums and leads the Carlos Jimenez Orchestra at Zona de Cuba in the Bronx.

Curated by Manuel — founder of Jazz Loft and Endowed Artist in Residence Fellow at Stony Brook University Jazz Department — the series aims to enrich the Southampton community with jazz traditions and innovation. It supports an ongoing effort to revitalize Stony Brook Southampton as a center for arts and education.

Each performance explores jazz historically and contemporarily while providing entertainment and education. The Jazz Loft’s mission focuses on jazz preservation, education, and performance through its partnership with Stony Brook Southampton.

The final concert in this series titled “Abstract Angularity” will occur on Thursday, August 28. Tickets are priced at $36 for general admission, $33 for seniors, and $18 for SBU students. They can be purchased online.
