Kevin J. LaValle was sworn in for his second term as Brookhaven Town Clerk on January 8. The ceremony took place in Farmingville, with New York State Supreme Court Justice Hon. Timothy P. Mazzei administering the oath of office.

Members of the Brookhaven Town Board attended the event to show their support, including Supervisor Daniel Panico, Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich, Councilwoman Jane Bonner, Councilman Neil Manzella, Councilman Michael Loguercio, Councilman Neil Foley, and Councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig.

Clerk LaValle’s family joined him at the ceremony. His parents, Richard and Judith LaValle, and his fiancée Erin McTiernan were present. Judith LaValle and Erin McTiernan held a family Bible from the 1800s during the oath.

In his remarks at the event, Clerk LaValle thanked the Town Board for their support and recognized his staff’s dedication and hard work. He also acknowledged his family for their ongoing support.

During his first term as Town Clerk, LaValle led modernization efforts within the office. These included introducing online boat slip renewal applications and online renewals for Parking Permits for Persons with Disabilities. The office digitized hundreds of thousands of documents to improve records management and completed a $4 million Regional Records Center project. Rezoning applications are now processed entirely online, and QR codes have been added to land-use signs so residents can access project information easily.

For his second term, Clerk LaValle outlined plans to move all Town Clerk forms online so residents can obtain vital records or submit applications remotely. He will also continue working with other municipalities to store records at the Regional Records Center.

“Moving forward, I can tell you I am excited,” said LaValle. “The goal is to modernize our township in the clerk’s office, and it is going to push forward. By the end of this year, a majority, if not all, of our applications and certificates will be online so residents can submit them from the convenience of their home. This is a bold goal”.

The Town Clerk’s office remains located at Brookhaven Town Hall on One Independence Hill in Farmingville.
