Kristan Probeck, associated with Stony Brook Surgery’s Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, has been recognized as the Nurse Practitioner (NP) of the Year by the Nurse Practitioner Association of Long Island (NPALI). This accolade is specific to Region 7, encompassing approximately 800 members across Long Island.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award and grateful to the committee and the NPALI,” Probeck expressed. “This award inspires me to continue striving for excellence and making a positive impact in the nurse practitioner field. I share this honor with my colleagues, mentors and patients who inspire me every day. I am motivated by this award to continue advocating for Nurse Practitioners and patients and continuing to improve healthcare outcomes.”
Probeck’s journey in healthcare began as a certified nursing assistant. She advanced through licensed practical nurse certification before obtaining her registered nurse credentials in 2003. By 2010, she had earned an adult nurse practitioner degree and joined Stony Brook Surgery’s vascular division in 2013 as a venous thromboembolism (VTE) nurse practitioner.
Her current role focuses on ensuring proper preventive care and treatment, patient-centered research for safety, quality improvement, and contributing to the development of the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team at Stony Brook. Probeck is acknowledged as an expert in her field, having spoken about VTE standards and research at national conferences, authored peer-reviewed journal articles, and presented award-winning posters at vascular conferences.
The official presentation of the 2025 Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award will take place during a celebratory dinner scheduled for September.
