Neil D. Thomas, a former member of the United States Marine Corps, served from September 1994 to September 2002 and retired as a Sergeant. During his military career, he was part of the 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), known as the “USMC Raiders.”
In his role as Corporal, Mr. Thomas took on additional responsibilities within his unit such as Squad Leader, Assistant Chief Scout Swimmer, and Forward Air Controller. His duties included conducting forward reconnaissance of beaches ahead of raid forces and maintaining ground combat operations. He was also involved in locating and camouflaging infantry positions and performing minesweeping activities.
As a Platoon Sergeant, Mr. Thomas advised the First Sergeant and Company CO while managing a team comprising 12 NCOs, 21 Marines, and one Navy Corpsman. His responsibilities extended to their health, welfare, morale, discipline, and performance.
After retiring from military service in September 2002, Mr. Thomas joined the FDNY in Brooklyn where he worked until May 2005 as a first responder to emergencies. Beyond this period with FDNY, he has volunteered for over ten years with fire and EMS units.
Currently residing in Bellport, New York with his family—wife Amy Thomas (née Price) whom he married in 2012—and children Hunter, Lochlyn, and Eastlyn—Mr. Thomas holds multiple roles including Captain of Special Operations for South Country Ambulance in Brookhaven; Class A Firefighter for Bellport Fire Department; and Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal. He possesses certifications such as EMT – Basic and Hazmat Operations.
A graduate of Eastport High School in Eastport, New York from the class of 1994—Mr. Thomas is recognized for his integrity and leadership both by superiors during his military tenure and by civilians in his subsequent roles.
