Northwell’s Mather Hospital has received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the third year in a row. This is the highest rating possible and is based on data evaluating outcomes, patient experience, and processes. Only four hospitals on Long Island earned this top rating.
“Achieving a five-star rating once is a significant accomplishment. Maintaining it for three consecutive years is a testament to our dedicated staff and a relentless pursuit of providing the best possible care to our patients,” said Mather President Kevin McGeachy.
Other Northwell hospitals that also received five stars include Glen Cove Hospital, Huntington Hospital, Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut. These ratings are part of the 2025 CMS Star Quality Rating System, which used Care Compare data from 2020 to 2023. Nationally, only about 10 percent of the 4,609 star-rated hospitals achieved five-star status. Sharon Hospital was previously operated by Nuvance Health before Northwell completed its merger with Nuvance in May.
CMS operates under the Department of Health and Human Services and created the five-star system to help consumers identify healthcare facilities using quality metrics such as mortality rates, safety of care, readmissions, patient experience, and timely care.
