Northwell’s Mather Hospital has been named one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades for the fourth consecutive year, according to an announcement made on January 27, 2026. The recognition places Mather Hospital in the top 5% of U.S. hospitals for overall clinical performance from 2023 to 2026.
“This recognition is not just an award; it’s a testament to the fact that Mather consistently delivers top-tier patient care, safety, and clinical excellence across the board,” said Mather President Kevin McGeachy. “Four years of consecutive recognition is only possible due to our exceptionally dedicated staff who continuously provide compassionate, high-quality care.”
The distinction is based on patient outcomes. Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over thirty common conditions and procedures at around 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine its list for 2026. Their analysis revealed significant differences in outcomes between the highest- and lowest-performing hospitals. According to Healthgrades, if all hospitals performed at the level of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, more than 211,000 lives could have potentially been saved during the study period from 2022 to 2024.
Alana Biggers, MD, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades stated: “This year’s America’s Best Hospitals list gives patients a clearer picture of where high-quality care is delivered most consistently. Patients can feel confident in their decision to seek care at Mather Hospital, an organization that is setting the standard for clinical excellence nationwide.”
Healthgrades is known as a leading platform Americans use when searching for doctors or hospitals. The company analyzes data such as MedPAR information covering Medicare patients from 2022 through 2024 to produce its rankings and methodology.
