Northwell’s Mather Hospital’s Critical Care and Interventional Radiology teams have been recognized with the 2025 DAISY Team Award for their response during a life-threatening emergency. The award, which is internationally known, honors teams that demonstrate clinical skill and compassion in difficult situations.

According to the nomination for the award, “the Critical Care and Interventional Radiology teams, alongside their physician and ACP (Advanced Care Provider) partners, exemplified courage, clinical excellence, and empathy… They didn’t just perform tasks; they combined skill and compassion, giving this patient the best possible chance at life.” The statement highlights how collaboration among these medical professionals was crucial in managing a critical scenario.

The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications related to an autoimmune disease at age 33. His family was deeply moved by the care he received from nurses during his hospitalization. The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who provide extraordinary care and go beyond expectations in both scientific practice and compassionate service.
