Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared his views on foreign policy, community engagement, and state spending through a series of posts on social media.
On January 31, 2026, LaLota addressed the ongoing situation in Iran, stating: “The Iranian people are demanding democracy and self-determination—not fear and repression. That’s why I joined colleagues from both sides of the aisle urging the State Department to maintain pressure on the Iranian regime, defend basic human rights, and condemn a government”.
Continuing his outreach to local communities, LaLota posted on February 1, 2026: “Honored to join leaders from New York’s Indian-American community and the Consulate General of India for the 77th Republic Day Reception in Manhattan. Long Island is home to a growing and vibrant Indian-American community, one I’ve come to know well through many meaningful”.
Later that day, he commented on state budget priorities with a critique of Governor Kathy Hochul’s spending: “The $2,400,000,000.00 Kathy Hochul is spending on health care, hotels, and legal services for illegal migrants would be far better spent on Long Island’s schools, infrastructure, and tax relief for working families.”
Nick LaLota has served as U.S. Representative for New York’s 1st District since replacing Lee Zeldin in 2023. He was born in Bay Shore in 1978 and currently resides in Amityville.
