Congressman Nick LaLota, representing New York’s 1st district since 2023, recently shared his views on various issues through a series of tweets. Born in Bay Shore, New York, and currently residing in Amityville, the 44-year-old congressman addressed topics ranging from sanctuary cities to international security threats and tax relief for middle-class families.
On July 9, 2025, Congressman LaLota commented on fiscal responsibilities regarding sanctuary cities. He stated that if these cities choose to allocate funds towards assisting illegal migrants, it should be at their own expense. “If sanctuary cities want to spend millions on handouts for illegal migrants, that’s their choice. But my No Bailout For Sanctuary Cities Act ensures taxpayers don’t foot the bill.”
The following day, July 10, 2025, LaLota addressed the issue of Iran’s involvement with terrorist organizations. He emphasized the importance of bipartisan efforts to counteract these threats. “For decades, Iran has armed terrorists like Hamas, Hezbollah & the Houthis to attack Americans, Israelis & our interests. Republicans & Democrats must stand united to contain this threat before it spreads further.”
Later that same day, he highlighted his efforts to provide tax relief for families in Long Island by advocating for an increase in the SALT cap. This move aims to deliver significant savings when residents file their taxes in 2025. “I fought to raise the SALT cap to $40K —delivering $2,300–$7,200 in tax relief for middle-class Long Island families when they file in 2025. Real savings for real families.”
Nick LaLota has been actively involved in legislative matters concerning both domestic policy and international relations since taking office after replacing Lee Zeldin.
