Congressman Nick LaLota, who has represented New York’s 1st District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently shared his views on state and federal policy matters through a series of posts on social media. The topics addressed ranged from criticism of New York’s leadership to legislative updates on Medicaid and defense spending.
On July 14, 2025, LaLota commented on the migration of New Yorkers to Florida, attributing it to state policies under Governor Kathy Hochul. He stated, “If driving New Yorkers to Florida were a sport, Kathy Hochul would be MVP. Her high taxes & soft-on-crime policies have done more for FL real estate than any realtor.”
The following day, July 15, 2025, LaLota discussed legislative action regarding Medicaid funding. He wrote, “The One Big Beautiful Bill starts to close the Medicaid provider tax loophole—ending a budget gimmick and helping stabilize the program long-term.”
Later that same day, LaLota expressed support for the House Defense bill. He emphasized its benefits by stating, “The House Defense bill deserves bipartisan support: 3.8% troop pay raise, better quality of life, and key investments in next-gen weapons and U.S.-Israel security.”
Nick LaLota was born in Bay Shore, New York in 1978 and currently resides in Amityville. He succeeded Lee Zeldin as representative for New York’s 1st District.
