Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several issues on his official social media account, including a police-involved shooting in Minnesota and winter weather preparedness efforts in his district.

On January 24, 2026, LaLota cautioned against premature judgments following a shooting incident in Minnesota. He stated: “Declaring today’s shooting in Minnesota as ‘murder’ before the facts are known and demonizing Law Enforcement is reckless. Leaders should cool the rhetoric, let investigations run their course, and allow the truth to come out. DHS says the individual was armed, approached”.

As severe winter weather approached Long Island, LaLota joined local officials to urge public caution. On January 25, he wrote: “Ahead of the impending snowstorm, I joined County Executive Romaine and county officials to urge residents to take this storm seriously and stay off the roads if at all possible. Doing so helps our brave First Responders and hardworking road crews do their jobs safely and”.

Later that day, he highlighted preparations underway to keep local roads safe during the storm: “Yesterday, before the snow started coming down, I joined Huntington officials as they received a major delivery of road salt that’s being deployed today to keep our roads safe. Road salt protects Long Islanders in the winter — and quadrupling the State and Local Tax (SALT)”.

Nick LaLota has represented New York’s 1st congressional district since replacing Lee Zeldin in 2023. Born in Bay Shore in 1978, LaLota currently resides in Amityville.
