Congressman Nick LaLota, representing New York’s 1st District since 2023, recently shared several updates on social media. LaLota, who succeeded Lee Zeldin, addressed issues ranging from tax negotiations to postal worker safety.
On May 8, 2025, Congressman LaLota issued a joint statement with fellow New York Representatives Elise Stefanik, Andrew Garbarino, and Mike Lawler. The statement expressed their commitment to negotiating in good faith regarding the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction for New Yorkers. They criticized the Speaker and the House Ways and Means Committee for proceeding without notice or agreement.
The following day, May 9, 2025, LaLota highlighted his engagement with students from Stony Brook University during their visit to Washington D.C. He described it as a “great meeting” while they attended a science workshop in the capital.
Later that day, he discussed his conversation with the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service concerning the low prosecution rate for attacks on letter carriers. In his tweet, he mentioned an incident where an armed robber received only a 30-day sentence. LaLota expressed pride in cosponsoring the Protect Our Letter Carriers Act to address this issue.
Nick LaLota was born in Bay Shore, New York in 1978 and currently resides in Amityville at age 44.
