Congressman Nick LaLota, representing New York’s 1st district, recently shared a series of tweets addressing various issues from fiscal policies to local projects. LaLota has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2023, after replacing Lee Zeldin.
On June 16, 2025, LaLota commented on the financial relationship between states like New York, New Jersey, and California with Washington D.C. He stated that these states send more funds to the federal government than they receive back, placing them in “the bottom ten of ROI.” “Nicole is right… SALT is one of we stomach subsidizing the rest of our great nation,” he tweeted. He highlighted the choice facing the Senate regarding state and local tax (SALT) deductions: either $40k or unlimited.
In another tweet posted on the same day, LaLota extended birthday wishes to @USACE_NY and @USACEHQ while expressing pride in partnering with them for a project at Lake Montauk Inlet. “Proud to partner with the Corps to fast-track the Lake Montauk Inlet dredge—boosting safety, supporting our fishing industry, and strengthening Long Island’s economy,” he wrote.
Later that day, LaLota discussed economic forecasts following a conversation with Russ Vought from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). He criticized the Congressional Budget Office’s growth estimate as inaccurate compared to projections from the House Budget Committee. “CBO’s 1.8% growth estimate is way off—House Budget projects 2.6%,” he asserted. He further warned against letting tax relief expire due to potential economic stagnation.
Nick LaLota was born in Bay Shore, New York in 1978 and currently resides in Amityville.
