Congressman Nick LaLota, representing New York’s 1st district since 2023, has recently shared his views on several pressing issues through a series of tweets. LaLota, who succeeded Lee Zeldin in Congress, continues to advocate for policy changes and accountability measures that he believes will benefit his constituents and the broader American public.
On June 17, 2025, Congressman LaLota addressed the issue of the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap. He stated that “The $10K SALT cap is outdated and unfair—just 16.3% of my constituents can claim it.” He highlighted his efforts in advocating for a new $40K cap as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill, which he claims would provide relief to 92% of households in his district.
The following day, on June 18, LaLota turned his attention to international trade practices. He emphasized the need for accountability regarding intellectual property rights by stating “We must hold China accountable for forcing U.S. companies to hand over IP.” He stressed that American innovation should not be exploited without due compensation or respect.
Later on June 18, Congressman LaLota expressed support for fellow Representative Elise Stefanik’s criticism of Governor Kathy Hochul’s policies. In a tweet he wrote: “Proud of my friend @RepStefanik for calling out Gov. Hochul.” He accused Hochul’s sanctuary policies of inviting chaos and enabling violent crimes by illegal aliens across New York.
Nick LaLota was born in Bay Shore, New York in 1978 and currently resides in Amityville at age 44.
