Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed concerns about state energy policies and tax relief for Long Island families in a series of posts on his official Twitter account.

On April 15, 2026, LaLota criticized state leadership over utility costs: “New Yorkers are getting crushed by utility bills because of Governor Hochul and Albany Democrats’ failed energy policies. They forced through unrealistic mandates and now families are paying the price while billions sit locked away in Albany. That is unacceptable. I am fighting”.

Later that day, he commented on Tax Day and the longstanding federal tax burden faced by residents of high-tax states like New York: ” I’ve never been one to say ‘Happy Tax Day,’ but this year, Long Islanders finally have a reason to. For too long, families in high tax states like New York have been sending more to Washington and getting back a smaller slice. That wasn’t right, and a small group of blue”.

On April 16, 2026, LaLota discussed negotiations over the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap for Long Island: “They tried to lowball Long Island on SALT and expected us to just accept it. I rejected their $30K offer because it did not come close to delivering the relief our families deserve. I kept fighting until we got $40K, enough to make 92% of Long Island families whole and deliver”.

Nick LaLota has represented New York’s 1st District since replacing Lee Zeldin in 2023. Born in Bay Shore in 1978, LaLota currently resides in Amityville.
