Congressman Nick LaLota, representing New York’s 1st district since 2023, has been actively engaging with legislative matters concerning his constituents. On June 9, 2025, he shared several updates on social media regarding key legislative efforts.
On June 9, 2025, Congressman LaLota announced that he had played a role in negotiating an increase in the State and Local Tax (SALT) cap to $40,000. He noted that this adjustment could provide up to $8,000 in relief for residents of Long Island. The House of Representatives has passed this measure, and it now awaits consideration by the Senate. “I helped negotiate a SALT cap increase to $40K—bringing up to $8K in relief for Long Islanders. The House passed it. Now it’s the Senate’s turn.”
Later that day, LaLota highlighted local support for law enforcement and reiterated backing for the increased SALT deduction. He mentioned that the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) endorsed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), which emphasizes maintaining the $40k SALT deduction as it moves to the Senate. “Long Island backs our cops—and the $40K SALT deduction! The FOP just endorsed the OBBBA, highlighting SALT. Now let’s get it through the Senate—with $40k SALT intact!”
In another update on June 9, LaLota referred to former President Trump’s actions related to border security and expressed support for legislation aimed at equipping Border Patrol with necessary tools. This bill has already been approved by the House and is poised for further legislative action. “President Trump’s actions helped secure the border. Now, the One Big Beautiful Bill gives Border Patrol the tools to finish the job. The House passed it—let’s make it law.”
Nick LaLota was born in Bay Shore, New York in 1978 and currently resides in Amityville.
