He noted that this adjustment could provide up to $8,000 in relief for residents of Long Island. The House of Representatives has passed this measure, and it now awaits consideration by the Senate. “I helped negotiate a SALT cap increase to $40K—bringing up to $8K in relief for Long Islanders. The House passed it. Now it’s the Senate’s turn.”
Later that day, LaLota highlighted local support for law enforcement and reiterated backing for the increased SALT deduction. He mentioned that the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) endorsed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), which emphasizes maintaining the $40k SALT deduction as it moves to the Senate. “Long Island backs our cops—and the $40K SALT deduction! The FOP just endorsed the OBBBA, highlighting SALT. Now let’s get it through the Senate—with $40k SALT intact!”
