Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared updates on meetings and policy positions affecting Long Island through a series of posts on his official social media account.

On February 11, 2026, LaLota wrote about a discussion with local Teachers’ Union officials: “I recently had a productive meeting with local Teachers’ Union (NYSUT) officials to discuss the challenges facing our community and their members. While we don’t agree on everything, we found common ground on an important point: Long Island schools must receive their fair share”.

Later that day, he posted about meetings in Washington, D.C.: “Today in DC, I met with senior Coast Guard leadership, including Rear Admiral Michael Platt and Homeland Security senior advisor Sean Plankey, alongside Chairman Andrew Garbarino to discuss Long Island priorities. I am proud to represent more than 150 Coasties in Congress and I”.

In another post from the same date, LaLota commented on law enforcement policies: “Long Island’s approach works: reject sanctuary policies, support cooperation between local and federal Law Enforcement, and allow ICE access to jails so enforcement targets the worst offenders safely. The focus should stay on removing dangerous criminals while advancing”.

Nick LaLota has served as the U.S. Representative for New York’s 1st District since 2023 after succeeding Lee Zeldin. Born in Bay Shore in 1978, LaLota is currently 44 years old and resides in Amityville.
