Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed key legislative actions and local impacts in a series of posts on his official social media account.
On August 5, 2025, LaLota stated his position on Medicaid work requirements: “If able-bodied adults choose not to work, that’s their choice—but taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for it. That’s why I supported the Big Bill’s Medicaid 80‑hour/month work requirement.”
Later that day, he highlighted the significance of defense spending for his constituency: “Long Island has nearly 200 small & mid-sized defense suppliers. The NDAA I voted for helps secure our fair share of defense dollars—supporting local jobs and innovation here at home.”
On August 6, LaLota emphasized progress on several regional issues: “Washington may be broken—but I’m making it work for Suffolk County: quadrupled SALT relief, funding for BNL, infrastructure upgrades, clean water, and high-paying jobs. That’s results, not rhetoric!”
Nick LaLota began serving as a member of Congress in January 2023 after succeeding Lee Zeldin as the representative for New York’s 1st District. Born in Bay Shore in 1978 and currently residing in Amityville at age 44, LaLota has focused his efforts on securing federal support for Long Island’s economic development and public services.
