Congressman Nick LaLota, representing New York’s 1st district since 2023, has recently shared his views on several pressing issues via social media. LaLota, who succeeded Lee Zeldin in Congress, has been vocal about legislative matters affecting his constituents.
On June 5, 2025, Congressman LaLota addressed the Senate Republicans’ stance on the House’s $40k SALT deal. He stated that “Senate Republicans from red states don’t need to love the House’s $40k SALT deal—they just need to understand that without it, the One Big Beautiful Bill goes nowhere.“
Later that day, he critiqued a post regarding tax policies and emphasized the coverage of the $40K cap. He noted that “This post might be credible if it mentioned Albany Dems caused NY’s high taxes—or that DC Dems did nothing on SALT when they had full control. It also ignores that the $40K cap fully covers 90%+ of this district, including anyone earning “
In another tweet posted on June 5th, LaLota discussed a meeting with Long Island postal union leaders concerning proposed cuts to federal and postal workers’ pay and benefits. He expressed his opposition by stating “Met with LI postal union leaders about a troubling plan to cut pay & benefits for federal/postal workers—it’s wrong, plain and simple. Even worse: only 14% of attacks on letter carriers lead to prosecution. That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor the Protect Our Letter Carriers Act.“
Nick LaLota was born in Bay Shore, New York in 1978 and currently resides in Amityville.
