Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed legislative and political developments through a series of posts on social media.
On August 19, 2025, LaLota wrote, “I backed the Big Bill because it quadruples the SALT deduction & protects Medicaid for seniors, people with disabilities, working families & pregnant women—while cutting waste, enforcing work requirements & blocking benefits for those here illegally. Benefits stay. Spending”. This post highlights his support for legislation increasing the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction and preserving Medicaid coverage while implementing cost-saving measures and stricter eligibility requirements.
Later that day, LaLota commented on healthcare provisions for veterans: “LI Veterans deserve world-class care. Thanks to Sec. Collins’ 2025 VA reforms, the Northport VA Medical Center will see major facility & service upgrades—funded by part of $800M in new funds.” He attributes improvements at Northport VA Medical Center to reforms led by Secretary Collins and an allocation of $800 million in funding.
In a subsequent post on August 20, 2025, LaLota discussed recent redistricting events in New York: “It was absolutely about blue versus red when my gaslighting governor tried to wipe out Republicans in 2022—until New York’s highest court struck down the Democrat-drawn congressional and state Senate maps as unconstitutional for defying the will of the voters. https://t.co/ofvYEwlHRA”. He referred to a court decision overturning congressional and state Senate maps drawn by Democrats prior to the 2022 elections.
Nick LaLota has served as U.S. Representative for New York’s 1st District since replacing Lee Zeldin in 2023. Born in Bay Shore, New York in 1978, LaLota is currently 44 years old and resides in Amityville.
