Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of updates on social media this week regarding local government milestones, national defense legislation, and educational outreach.

On January 7, 2026, LaLota posted his congratulations to a colleague: “Congratulations to my good friend, Legislator Anthony “Pick” Piccirillo, on becoming the Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature—a position once held by my wife’s grandfather, Lou Howard, Sr., in the 1980s. Pick and I worked closely together in the County Legislature”.

The following day, January 8, LaLota addressed his vote on a key piece of federal legislation: “I voted YES on the overwhelmingly bipartisan FY2026 NDAA because it delivers real results for our Service Members and our national security. The bill provides a 3.8% pay raise, invests in barracks, housing, healthcare, and mental health services, and strengthens our military’s”.

Later that same day he commented on hosting students from his former high school: “It was great to host students from my alma mater, St. Anthony’s High School, during their recent trip to Washington. They explored the Capitol, asked thoughtful questions about our government, and reflected on our history and ideals. This next generation of Long Islanders is”.

Nick LaLota has served as U.S. Representative for New York’s 1st District since 2023 after succeeding Lee Zeldin. Born in Bay Shore in 1978 and currently residing in Amityville at age 44, LaLota has maintained active engagement with both legislative initiatives at the federal level and community affairs within his district.
