Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address federal spending and local tax issues.
On July 19, 2025, LaLota criticized a proposed commuter tax and celebrated the passage of an amendment he sponsored: “Socialist Zohran Mamdani wants “free” buses and subways—but that really means Long Islanders get stuck with the bill via Hochul’s $2,000/year commuter tax. That’s wrong. I’m proud my amendment to block federal funds for this tax passed with GOP support.”
Later that day, LaLota invited constituents visiting Washington D.C. to seek assistance from his office for arranging tours: “Visiting DC this summer? My team can help set up tours of the Capitol, Supreme Court—even the White House! Start here: https://t.co/73sK9n5OcI” (posted on July 19, 2025).
On July 20, 2025, he addressed concerns about federal deficits and spending priorities: “A nation running $2T deficits must be smarter about how we use limited federal resources to tackle today’s biggest challenges.”
Nick LaLota has represented New York’s 1st District since replacing Lee Zeldin in 2023. Born in Bay Shore in 1978, LaLota is currently 44 years old and resides in Amityville.
