Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared updates on higher education, veterans’ recognition, and tax policy through his official social media account.
On August 6, 2025, LaLota posted about a meeting with State University of New York (SUNY) officials: “Great meeting with @SUNY leadership and Chancellor John B. King Jr. to talk about making sure SUNY degrees lead to good jobs and maintaining research funding for Stony Brook University.”
Marking Purple Heart Day on August 7, 2025, LaLota reflected on a recent honor he bestowed: “On Purple Heart Day, I’m reminded of Army Veteran & lifelong Long Islander Robert Terrell, who I awarded a Purple Heart in 2024. God bless all wounded or fallen in defense of our nation. “
Later that same day, he addressed local tax policy affecting Suffolk families: “Raising the SALT cap to $40K covers over 90% of Suffolk families—ending double taxation on middle-class income. Now Albany Democrats must lower state taxes and reduce unfunded mandates crippling local governments.”
Nick LaLota has represented New York’s 1st Congressional District since 2023 after succeeding Lee Zeldin. Born in Bay Shore in 1978 and currently residing in Amityville, LaLota has focused much of his legislative activity on issues directly impacting his Long Island constituency.
