Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed a range of policy topics on his social media account, focusing on veteran employment, healthcare requirements, and agricultural support.
On July 25, 2025, LaLota marked National Hire A Veteran Day by highlighting legislative efforts to assist veterans in the workforce. He wrote: “On #HireAVeteranDay, we recognize the leadership Veterans bring to the cilivan workforce. It’s why I sponsored a bill to expand @SBAgov contracts for service-disabled Vet-owned businesses. Later that day, LaLota commented on eligibility for taxpayer-funded healthcare under new legislation. In his post dated July 25, 2025, he stated: “If you’re here illegally or able-bodied but refuse to work, you shouldn’t get free taxpayer-funded health care. The Big Bill’s work requirement fixes that.”
The following day, July 26, 2025, LaLota discussed measures aimed at supporting local agriculture in Long Island through federal legislation. He posted: “The One Big Bill boosts Long Island agriculture with more crop insurance, conservation funds, and specialty crop grants—supporting the local farms that feed us.”
Nick LaLota has represented New York’s 1st congressional district since 2023 after succeeding Lee Zeldin. Born in Bay Shore in 1978 and currently residing in Amityville at age 44, LaLota has focused his recent public communications on policies affecting veterans’ employment opportunities and support for regional agriculture.
