Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared updates on local initiatives and federal support for his constituents through a series of posts on social media.
On August 22, 2025, LaLota highlighted his visit to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Weather Forecast Office at Brookhaven. He wrote, “Visited NOAA’s Weather Forecast Office at Brookhaven—one of 122 nationwide. Their work helps keep Suffolk & the Tri-State safe from extreme weather, from Sandy to today’s storms. In Congress, I remain committed to keeping our district prepared for what’s ahead.”
The following day, August 23, he addressed issues affecting seniors living on Long Island: “Seniors deserve to afford life on Long Island. That’s why I backed the Big Bill: to cut Social Security taxes, protect Medicaid, quadruple SALT, double the Elderly Care Tax Credit, and cap prescription drug costs.”
Later that same day, LaLota congratulated Stony Brook University for securing new federal research funding: “Congrats to @stonybrooku on winning over $12M in new @NSF funding. This shows Washington recognizes Long Island as a leader in cutting-edge science.”
Nick LaLota has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Lee Zeldin as representative for New York’s 1st district. Born in Bay Shore in 1978 and currently residing in Amityville at age 44, LaLota has focused his legislative efforts on issues relevant to his district’s residents.
