Congressman Nick LaLota, who has represented New York’s 1st District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently shared a series of statements outlining his legislative priorities and approach to governance. The posts highlight his focus on job creation, bipartisan cooperation, and healthcare program protections for Long Island residents.
On July 10, 2025, LaLota addressed concerns about local employment and international trade policy. He stated, “I’m fighting for more good-paying, middle-class jobs on Long Island—and that means standing up to China’s unfair trade practices like forced IP transfers and massive state subsidies.”
The following day, July 11, 2025, LaLota described his motivation for serving in Congress and his legislative philosophy. He posted, “I’m in Washington to fight for Long Island—not special interests. I lean on common sense, work across the aisle when it helps, and speak up when others stay silent.”
Later on July 11, 2025, LaLota commented on Medicaid requirements included in recent legislation. He wrote that “Thousands of Long Island families rely on Medicaid. The Big Bill protects the program by requiring able-bodied adults to work in order to receive benefits.”
Nick LaLota succeeded Lee Zeldin as the representative for New York’s 1st District in 2023. Born in Bay Shore in 1978 and currently residing in Amityville at age 44, he continues to focus on issues impacting his constituents.
