Congressman Nick LaLota, who represents New York’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, has highlighted recent legislative achievements benefiting Long Island families through a series of social media posts.
On July 31, 2025, LaLota wrote, “Long Island’s middle-class families win big with the $40K SALT cap deal I fought for—many will save $2,000 to $7,000!” On August 1, he continued by emphasizing his effectiveness as a legislator: “Rated one of Congress’s most effective, I deliver for Long Island: $2K–$7K SALT relief, millions for jobs & clean water, and $11M recovered for constituents through casework. Proud to get results for Suffolk County.”
Later that day on August 1, LaLota provided a specific example from Selden: “Thanks to the new $40,000 SALT cap in the Big Bill, Long Island families—such as those who live on Loebel Street in Selden, earn $180,000 annually, and pay $11,000 in property taxes—will save $2,100 on their federal taxes this year.”
The State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap has been a point of contention among lawmakers representing high-tax states such as New York. The newly established $40,000 SALT cap aims to provide significant tax relief to middle-class families in these regions.
Nick LaLota succeeded Lee Zeldin as representative of New York’s 1st district in 2023 and is currently serving in that role. He was born in Bay Shore in 1978 and resides in Amityville.
