Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, NY, has introduced the Focal One Robotic High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatment for prostate cancer patients. This non-invasive procedure targets cancerous tissue with precision while preserving healthy tissue, eliminating the need for surgery or radiation.

Amy Loeb, PBMC’s executive director, stated, “Offering this cutting-edge treatment option to those across Eastern Suffolk County who are facing a prostate cancer diagnosis reinforces our commitment to providing advanced, patient-centered care close to home.” She emphasized that the new technology offers a safer and more targeted option for patients.

According to data from the New York State Department of Health, nearly 15,500 New Yorkers are diagnosed with prostate cancer annually. The Focal One Robotic HIFU is designed for low to intermediate-risk patients and uses ultrasound waves to destroy cancer cells accurately. The procedure typically requires one session under general anesthesia and poses a low risk of complications. Patients can usually return home the same day and resume normal activities within days.

The introduction of HIFU at PBMC strengthens its position as a leading provider of minimally invasive cancer care on Long Island’s East End. Dr. Ragheed Saoud now offers this procedure for suitable candidates with localized prostate cancer. Interested patients will be screened and evaluated by Dr. Saoud at his office in Riverhead.
