Rep. Andrew Garbarino, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 2nd district since 2021, posted a series of statements on social media addressing the passing of a colleague, local tax policy changes, and support for law enforcement.
On January 6, 2026, Garbarino expressed condolences following the death of fellow Congressman Doug LaMalfa. In his post he stated: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my colleague and friend, Doug LaMalfa. Doug was a dedicated public servant who truly cared about his constituents, his state, and our country. I valued working alongside him in Congress, and he will be deeply missed. My thoughts”.
Two days later, on January 7, 2026, Garbarino highlighted recent tax relief measures impacting Long Island households: “On average, households on Long Island are estimated to see a roughly $2,860 tax cut under the OBBB. House Republicans delivered real relief for our communities by quadrupling the SALT deduction cap to $40,000, extending tax cuts, and standing up for families in a high-cost”.
On January 9, 2026—Law Enforcement Appreciation Day—he voiced support for police officers: “On Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, I thank the brave men and women who put on the badge and protect our communities every day. They deserve our respect, our gratitude, and our full support. I am proud to stand with law enforcement.”
Andrew Garbarino has served in Congress since replacing Peter King in 2021 after previously holding office in the New York State Assembly from 2013 to 2020. Born in Sayville in 1984 and currently residing in Bayport at age 38, Garbarino holds degrees from George Washington University (BA) and Hofstra University (JD).
