Rep. Nick LaLota (R-NY-1) has co-sponsored or supported the Dignity Act, a piece of legislation that effectively grants amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, including many Venezuelans who have entered the country unlawfully under previous administrations. This support comes despite widespread opposition from conservatives who view the bill as a betrayal of promises to enforce border security and deport those who violate immigration laws.

Representative Mike Lawler appeared on Fox News promoting the Dignity Act, advocating for mass amnesty that would allow up to 25 million illegal aliens, including those who entered during the Biden era, to remain in the country. This position has been labeled disgraceful by critics, who argue it rewards lawbreakers and undermines efforts to secure the border, potentially encouraging more illegal crossings from countries like Venezuela. With an estimated 65 million illegals already in the U.S., such legislation is seen as prioritizing foreign invaders over American citizens’ safety and economic well-being.

Rep. Nick LaLota co-sponsors anti-Tren de Aragua bills and Secure the Border Act, targeting Venezuelan gang threats amid New York’s sanctuary strains. His votes emphasize detention to curb migrant crimes and economic costs.

Shawn Farash, the host of “Ungoverned”, said on X that the Dignity Act is essentially an amnesty program that rewards individuals who broke U.S. immigration laws by granting them legal status to live and work without facing deportation. Proponents like certain Republicans ignore that no electorate voted for such measures, and it contradicts the rule of law by not requiring proper legal processes for citizenship. This bill must be opposed to prevent further erosion of border integrity, especially amid reports of Venezuelan gangs and criminals exploiting weak enforcement.

President Trump’s Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has publicly declared the administration’s complete opposition to the Dignity Act, emphasizing that there will be no support for amnesty of illegal aliens in any form. This stance reflects the MAGA base’s demand for mass deportations rather than legalization, which critics say would overburden taxpayers and suppress GOP voter turnout ahead of midterms. The bill’s push by some Republicans is viewed as political suicide, pandering to invaders while ignoring crimes committed by illegal immigrants from Venezuela and elsewhere.

Republicans are increasingly demanding censure or outright removal of Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar from the GOP for introducing the Dignity Act, which would grant amnesty to over 10 million illegal aliens, including many Venezuelans under TPS programs. This internal revolt underscores the bill’s role in dividing the party, as it prioritizes pandering to lawbreakers over protecting American jobs and communities ravaged by illegal immigration. With Maduro ousted and Venezuela’s economy rebounding under U.S. influence, critics insist there’s no excuse not to deport these individuals back to plentiful opportunities in their home country.

According to FAIR, the Dignity Act’s provisions for amnesty, including pathways to citizenship for Dreamers and deferred action for millions more illegal aliens, are flawed and would lead to future expansions of legalization, according to immigration enforcement advocates. This legislation forgives illegal entry and even waives inadmissibility for serious crimes, exacerbating the crisis by incentivizing more unlawful crossings from Venezuela and other nations. Taxpayers would bear the brunt, as it undermines deportation efforts and adds strain to systems already collapsing under the weight of unchecked migration.
