Senator Mario R. Mattera of the 2nd Senate District has announced that Salvatore Riccobono, a Vietnam veteran and retired NYPD officer, has been inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame for his district.
Riccobono served in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1965 to 1967, reaching the rank of Specialist E-4. During his deployment to Vietnam from May 1966 to May 1967, he was involved in medevac missions and humanitarian efforts with the 93rd Evacuation Hospital.
After his military service, Riccobono worked as a New York City Police Officer in the East Village plainclothes unit during a challenging period for the city. His efforts contributed to community safety by removing dangerous criminals from the streets.
Since relocating to St. James in 1999, Riccobono has remained active in veteran and civic services. He serves as Junior Vice Commander of VFW Post 395 and organizes local parades. Additionally, he participates in the Greater St. James Civic Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Senator Mattera commended Riccobono’s dedication: “Salvatore Riccobono represents the very best of our nation. From the battlefields of Vietnam to the streets of New York, and now in our own communities here in Suffolk County, he has exemplified honor, bravery, and compassion. I am proud to recognize his sacrifices and contributions by inducting him into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.”
Riccobono is married to Patty Murray Riccobono and is a father to two sons, James and Daniel. He also cherishes his daughters-in-law Suzanne and Maryvic, along with five grandchildren: Max, Molly, Brady, Emelyn, and Luca.
Throughout his life, Salvatore Riccobono has demonstrated a commitment to service and country. Senator Mattera expressed gratitude for his contributions.
