Selected Shorts returns to Stony Brook Southampton with star-studded cast

The well-known radio show and podcast, Selected Shorts, is set to return to Stony Brook Southampton on July 11. The event will feature a selection of short fiction exploring human complexities and perceptions of the world.

The evening will be hosted by Meg Wolitzer, with performances by actors Becky Ann Baker, Dylan Baker, Richard Kind, and Sonia Manzano at the Avram Theater. Attendees can expect stories from authors like Patricia Marx and Kurt Vonnegut brought to life on stage.

Richard Kind has a notable career in both theater and film. He recently participated in All In: Comedy About Love on Broadway and has appeared in productions such as Kiss Me Kate and The Producers. His film work includes roles in Argo and A Serious Man.

Becky Ann Baker is recognized for her Emmy-nominated role in Girls and her appearances in shows like Freaks and Geeks. Her Broadway credits include The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and A Streetcar Named Desire.

Dylan Baker’s filmography includes Dream Scenario; LaRoy, Texas; Spider-Man 2 & 3; Selma; Confirmation; Kings; Damages; and The Americans. His theater work earned him a Tony Award nomination for La Bete.

Sonia Manzano created Alma’s Way for PBS Kids, winning two Imagen Awards. Known for her role as “Maria” on Sesame Street, she also received numerous accolades including the National Academy of Arts & Sciences’ Lifetime Achievement Daytime Emmy.

Meg Wolitzer is an acclaimed author known for works like The Female Persuasion. She teaches at Stony Brook University where she co-founded BookEnds.

Selected Shorts originated over thirty-five years ago at Symphony Space in Manhattan. It features renowned actors performing great stories by established or emerging writers around various themes or collaborations.
