New York State Senator Dean Murray and several colleagues held a press conference to push for the passage of the PROTECT Act during the next legislative session in Albany. The proposed legislation aims to address concerns about repeat offenders being released before trial.

During the event, Senator Murray emphasized the urgency of passing the bill. “It is vitally important that we pass the aptly named ‘PROTECT ACT’ legislation to protect New Yorkers from dangerous repeat offenders. It is imperative that a system be put in place to determine if those who have been arrested are a danger to society so they aren’t simply released back out on the streets to do more harm while they await trial,” he said.

The press conference highlighted growing debate over pretrial release policies and public safety concerns across New York.
