On April 19, the Student Activities Center at Stony Brook University became a hub of activity as it hosted Brook Con, an annual anime and pop culture convention. The event was organized by Animated Perspectives, the university’s anime club, and involved collaboration with various other clubs and organizations on campus.
Brook Con offered attendees a range of activities that celebrated anime and fandom culture. The one-day convention featured art displays, panels, cosplay events, vendor booths, and performances. Among the highlights was the “Brook Con Live!” show.
A variety of panels were held throughout the day. These included Karaoke hosted by the Sci-Fi Forum, Cats in Anime by Cat Network, Visual Novel Intro by the Game Development and Design Club (GDDC), Pokemon Trivia from the Pokemon Go Club, Manga Page Creation led by the Comic Book Club, DIY CSSA from the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), and Chikagei by Kaigai Idols at SBU. Additionally, Artist Alley was managed by the Art Club.
Performances during Brook Con included acts from KBS Dance Team, Taiko Tides, Flow, Kendo demonstrations, Starry With: U performances, and Stony Breakers. The Vendor Hall saw sponsorship from Cat Network, CSSA, and the Crochet Club.
Brook Con operates as a non-profit event run entirely by students with financial support from Stony Brook University’s Undergraduate Student Government and assistance from volunteers.
