Stony Brook, NY — Dr. Jason Kim and Dr. Steven Weissbart of the Women’s Pelvic Health and Continence Center at Stony Brook University Hospital have successfully conducted one of the nation’s initial Glean Urodynamics procedures using Bright Uro’s ambulatory urodynamic system.

This new diagnostic technology is a significant advancement for assessing bladder function in the approximately 17 million people who face daily bladder control issues in the United States. Traditional urodynamic studies typically involve catheterization and clinical observation, whereas Glean allows for real-time data collection in a natural setting. This offers patients a more comfortable experience while enhancing diagnostic accuracy and safety. The system’s wireless, catheter-free monitoring of bladder pressure benefits patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction by tracking symptoms that are challenging to capture during conventional office-based tests.

Dr. Jason Kim, Associate Professor of Urology and Director of the Women’s Pelvic Health and Continence Center at SBUH, was the national principal investigator for the FDA-approved trial of the Glean system. The results were recently published in the Journal of Endourology.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of urologic innovation,” said Dr. Kim. “This new technology marks a major step forward in patient-centered care by providing a more physiologic, less invasive approach to urodynamic testing. This will improve both the quality of the data we gather and the patient experience overall.”

As one of only two sites nationwide—and the first on the East Coast—to adopt this advanced technology, Stony Brook University Hospital continues to lead in improving care for patients with pelvic floor disorders and lower urinary tract symptoms.

Stony Brook University Hospital is Long Island’s leading academic health center with 624 beds, serving as the region’s sole tertiary care center and Regional Trauma Center. It houses several specialized institutes including Stony Brook University Heart Institute, Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital, Neurosciences Institute, among others.
