Stony Brook Southampton will host a Black History Month film series titled “Lives, Legacy, and the Long Road to Justice” over three nights in February. The event is part of Stony Brook University’s efforts to promote education, dialogue, and community engagement.

The screenings will take place from February 19 to 21 at The Avram on the Stony Brook Southampton campus. The first film, “Fences,” adapted from August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, will be shown on Thursday, February 19. On Friday, February 20, the series continues with “42,” which depicts Jackie Robinson breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The final screening on Saturday, February 21 features “Selma,” focusing on the 1965 voting rights marches led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Tickets for each screening are priced at $10, while a pass for all three films is available for $28. Tickets can be purchased online through the Stony Brook Southampton website.

According to organizers: “Lives, Legacy, and the Long Road to Justice invites audiences to reflect on the individuals and movements that have shaped Black history in the United States. Through stories of family, brilliance, and activism, the series highlights how personal lives intersect with larger historical forces and how the pursuit of justice continues across generations.”

More information about this event can be found at the Stony Brook Southampton website.
