In collaboration with Metrograph, an independent movie theater in New York City, Stony Brook University’s MFA in Film Program Artistic Director and Killer Films Co-Founder Christine Vachon has curated a retrospective to mark the 30th anniversary of Killer Films. The eight-film series highlights the production company’s influence on the film industry and coincides with the 10th anniversary of Stony Brook’s MFA in Film partnership with Killer Films.
The event opens on August 5 at 10:30 pm with “Office Killer,” a cult horror film by Cindy Sherman that inspired the company’s name.
“Choosing which films to screen in celebration of Killer Films’ 30th anniversary was no easy feat. Every title holds a unique place in the long, winding journey of how this company came to be — each film is a chapter in our story,” said Vachon and Killer Films Co-Founder Pamela Koffler. “These films still inspire laughter, awe, and more than a few outrageous behind-the-scenes stories we love to tell.”
Associate Chair Magdalene Brandeis from Stony Brook’s Department of Creative Writing, Film and Television commented on the significance of the partnership: “We are enormously fortunate to be partnered with Killer Films in building a film program at Stony Brook. Christine Vachon is a legend in the independent film industry, and continues to inspire filmmakers, Stony Brook master’s students, and artists all over the world.”
The series will also feature a special “Killer Secret Screening” scheduled for Sunday, August 10 at 7:45 pm. Organizers describe it as follows: “We give you the location, you show up, and see what happens. We promise you won’t be disappointed by the star headliner.”
The retrospective has attracted attention from major entertainment publications such as Deadline, Time Out, and Variety.
