Stony Brook University announced on April 6 that the inauguration of its seventh president, Andrea Goldsmith, will be marked by nine days of events from April 11 through April 19. The celebration will span multiple locations including Southampton, New York City, and both East and West Campuses.

The weeklong series is designed to honor Goldsmith’s career and highlight important themes such as Women in Engineering, Women in Leadership, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The university said the program includes academic discussions, arts performances, and community activities intended to engage a broad audience.

Several distinguished guests are expected to participate in key events during Inauguration Week. These include State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr., philanthropist Marilyn Simons, former Stanford University President John L. Hennessy, Anne-Marie Slaughter, and Barbara G. Novic.

In a message to the Stony Brook campus community, Goldsmith said: “It’s a moment for us as a university community to join together across disciplines, roles and campuses, and for our guests — in person or joining via livestream — to experience the breadth and impact of Stony Brook in real time.”

The formal investiture ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at the Stony Brook Arena.
