Stony Brook University announced on April 16 that the investiture of President Andrea Goldsmith will take place Saturday, April 18 at 11 a.m. in the Stony Brook Arena. The ceremony marks the official recognition of Goldsmith as the university’s seventh president and serves as the culmination of a weeklong inauguration celebration.
The investiture is described as a distinguished ceremonial occasion that formally commemorates the appointment of the university president. It pays homage to Stony Brook’s traditions while signifying a new chapter in its leadership.
The event will feature an academic procession including faculty, members of various university councils and boards, delegates from colleges and learned societies, and recipients of awards such as the Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence and The Stony Awards. According to organizers, tickets are required for entry and can be obtained online. Doors to Stony Brook Arena will open at 10 a.m., with a reception scheduled to follow at Stony Brook Union.
For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be livestreamed at stonybrook.edu/live.
As this event celebrates both continuity and change within Stony Brook University leadership, it offers an opportunity for reflection on institutional traditions while welcoming new directions under President Goldsmith.
